America’s Next Howard Baker Is More Likely to Come From Fox News Than the Nation’s Capital

Posted on: December 10th, 2018 by Colby Hall

The legal problems currently facing President Donald Trump are unlike any other White House controversy we’ve seen before. Because the closest analogy would be the Watergate break-in and cover-up that eventually led to President Richard Nixon‘s resignation, it’s only natural to look to that period for insights here.

The true hero in that historical scar on American politics was Tennessee Senator Howard Baker, who famously put is patriotism before partisanship and led the Republican party to hold Nixon, also a Republican, accountable for his crimes. Read on…

Fox News Turns to Rampant Fear Mongering in Run Up to Midterm Elections

Posted on: December 4th, 2018 by Colby Hall

With political stakes remarkably high, the White House and Fox News appear to be working hand in hand to do the one thing they know will rally their base: Scare the hell out of them.

Examples of irresponsible fear-mongering are too numerous to list, but Tomi Lahren‘s appearance from this morning’s episode of Fox & Friends (watch above) is a perfect illustration of the common day scare tactics on full display on Fox News. Read more…

Why is the Media Giving Trump a Pass For His Self-Defeating Illegal Immigration Policy?

Posted on: December 4th, 2018 by Colby Hall

President Donald Trump and his defenders in the conservative media desperately want the American electorate to know about the “caravan” of immigrants making its way to the U.S., as a means of ginning up a base of voters gravely concerned with border security. It’s a tactic that worked very well in the 2016 general election, so as the political logic suggests, why not hit the same note two years later? Read on…

Why is the Media Buying Jerome Corsi’s Claim He Rejected Mueller’s Plea Deal?

Posted on: December 4th, 2018 by Colby Hall

Jerome Corsi is a conservative writer, conspiracy theorist and close political ally of Roger Stone who was, until very recently at least, in plea negotiations with the special counsel’s office. This according to last week’s Washington Post report that he was in talks with Special Counsel Robert Mueller. But why should anyone believe this conspiracy theorist known to lie? Read on…

Fox & Friends Stays on Message: ‘It’s All About the Caravan’

Posted on: December 4th, 2018 by Colby Hall

Fox & Friends opened their show in a manner that would make any Republican strategist smile but was likely intended specifically for President Donald Trump.

In the opening moments of Wednesday’s program, co-host Brian Kilmeade offered: “Every person in the country will vote in the midterms, because wherever I go there is a buzz about the midterms are some issue for a couple weeks it was all about Kavanaugh. Now it’s all about the caravan.” Read on…

Here’s How Fox & Friends is Covering Report on Ivanka Using Private Email For Govt. Business

Posted on: December 4th, 2018 by Colby Hall

If we learned one thing from Fox News’ coverage of the 2016 presidential campaign it’s that the use of a private email server for government business should disqualify one from a leadership role in the government. Hillary Clinton received voluminous coverage from the right-of-center cable news outlet, so how did the President Trump’s favorite morning show cover a very similar story involving his daughter Ivanka? Trump Ramps Up Fear-Mongering: Caravans Made Up of ‘Very Bad Thugs and Gang Members’

Posted on: December 4th, 2018 by Colby Hall

President Donald Trump is nothing if not consistent.

Despite significant and bipartisan criticism for irresponsible and dangerous rhetoric that critics have described as fear-mongering, Trump is hitting the same “be afraid of the Caravan” note on Twitter this morning. Read on…

Sorry Conservative Media, But WhatAboutism in Response to Pro-Trump Mail Bomber Just Doesn’t Fly

Posted on: December 4th, 2018 by Colby Hall

Much has been made of the pro-Trump and violent anti-Democratic imagery on the van that authorities seized, and the social media feed of the man in custody paint an almost cartoonish portrait of a Trump supporter who dangerously took the Commander in Chief’s hyperbolic rhetoric quite literally. But anyone expecting a transcendent moment to come as a result of this really ugly stain on American history is sure to be disappointed. Because while the conversation has changed a bit, the finger-pointing has only increased in reaction to this domestic terrorist attack. Read more…
